It was a busy week for the team with riders competing in a number of state road championships, road races and one of the larger mountain bike races in the upper Midwest.

Oh oh. It’s one of those signs that summer is moving towards a close… Wausau24. So have fun in the sun while you can and grab a few photos along the way.

In an effort to give readers/followers a look inside the team and its partners, we’re launching the occasional question and answer feature called “The Last 200 Meters.”
The idea is to take a two minute interview, or emailed Q&A, and see what happens.
In this edition, Jim Saueressig takes us on a trip down Memory Lane with a mention of his Sears “Free Spirit” bike..
Name: Jim Saueressig
Home: West Bend
Occupation: CPA
Disciplines: Road, maybe MTB and gravel (I say that every year)
Years racing/riding: I started riding seriously in 1985 when I replaced an old Sears “Free Spirit” bike with a Trek 500. Racing started in 1990.
2015 highlights: My favorite race for the year was The Ashley For the Arts road race. It features some climbs and a long twisty descent where I hit 5 0mph. That was a blast.
Why do you ride/race: I’ve always enjoyed the fitness aspects of the training and the peacefulness of getting lost in the country. Racing is just a test of that fitness and an excuse to get together with friends.
My Dream Bike Ride: When I first started riding I was drawn to organized tours and charity rides. I’ve always wanted to do a cross country tour. That would be a great way to spend a summer.
It seems like just a few weeks ago we wrapped up Season Two of the Tuesday Tango from JB Cycle & Sport. Ok, not really. October seems like a long time ago, because it was.
But that was 2015, let’s talk 2016.
The 2016 Tango gets underway April 5 at 5:30 p.m., weather permitting (snow-free roads and no active precipitation) of course.
Additional details on the ride can be found here and on Facebook here.
If the weather looks iffy early enough in the day watch Facebook for some sort of decision (but more often than not, it’s a late call with the hopes of fitting the ride in. Sometime it just doesn’t happen, however)

Well, here’s a one fun one. Read a little further and find out why Derek Moran only races on the road.
Name: Derek Moran
Home: Eden
Occupation: semi retired
Disciplines: Road. Everything else leads to bad crashes.
Years racing/riding: Four.
2015 highlights: Podiums at Downers, Muskego, Silver Lake, and wins at the LAPT Omnium (ed: all of these are crits and road races). Oh, and finishing the Fat Tire 40 with multiple head traumas (At least I think I finished).
Why do you ride/race: To avoid my family
Most dreaded bike repair: I’m not allowed to work on my bike
Movie or song that best summarizes your life: what are those things?
Misc: The only activity I spend more time doing than cycling is sleeping.
Snow and tarmac filled the docket this weekend. GVR results from the 906 Polar Roll found here.
The winter of 2013-14 was brutal in the Upper Midwest. We went weeks without high temperatures clearing 0-degrees Fahrenheit.
Those were also the first months following the decision to form Gryphon Velo Racing. We were starting a team from scratch. We had no website, no money, no uniforms, a couple riders, a Twitter account, and an idea.
We also had a photo editing program and decent search engine to find old photos on the iterwebs. Here’s a quick look at some of the very early promotional images from GVR. All are from 2013-14.
While looking for these I found a few photos/posters/ads that never got altered.
Could we see more?
Here’s a quick rundown of stats for this blog since it was launched at the very tail end of August. Thanks to everyone that stopped by to take a look and stay tuned for more content in 2016.
Oh, and as far as I can tell, the most viewed photo last year was the profile pic for Aaron Messenger. He must have quite the fan base.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,600 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 27 trips to carry that many people.

As long as we’re posting 2015 in review, here’s the LONG version of the 2015 recap video (originally posted just before Thanksgiving):
