400 Career Cyclocross Start Milestone Set

CAMBRIDGE, WISC. – Julie Phelps reached a career milestone Nov. 16 at the CamRock & Roll CX race near Madison when she started her 400th career race.

Phelps began racing ‘cross in 2009. She capped off her Ironwoman milestone with a slow-motion bike throw for the “win” while riding with women’s singlespeed “tootle train” in the Women’s 1/2/3 SS race.

The event was commemorated by the Gelbbrucke squad out of Milwaukee

Phelps completed races 401 to 403 the following day.

Monthly Rewind: September 2024

Summer held on a few extra weeks in Wisconsin to wrap up the road season, usher in the cyclocross season and make the few remining mountain bike races enjoyable.

The month also saw the last of our squad heading the 2025 National Senior games get qualified in Wisconsin. Cycling events at the National Senior Games span four days next summer in Des Moines, Iowa.

Monthly Rewind: August

August saw both the road and mountain bike seasons start the inevitable process of winding down.

It was a good month for the team on both the pavement and the dirt with a number of wins and podiums, as well as one MTB state championship title.

The team’s season rolls on in September with a smattering of road races, the start of the cyclocross season and the NICA MTB season.

Monthly Rewind: June

GVR riders have a lot to be proud of in June.

We had a great run at Tour of America’s Dairyland that saw Tracy Peters in a leaders jersey for most of the Colby Series of races while Gabby Wrightsman (U19) put up a solid 11 days of racing. The Men’s 2/3 crew of Chad Cannon and Jura Gerlach was at the front during the first half of the series, while Carly Sample (U19) made her crit racing debut at De Pere (with a second-place finish).

On the mountain bike side, our U19 riders (Maddie LeBeau, Archer Munson, Aidan Otradovec and Joseph McCrary) put up a string or podiums and nice results in the WORS Series of races. More importantly, they had fun.

It’s on to another big month of racing of in July!

Monthly Rewind: May

Boy, we sure hate to see May leave.

It was quite the month for GVR riders who were active from Wisconsin and Iowa to Florida and Mississippi.

Riders scored a bunch of nice results, including overall category wins at the La Crosse Omnium at the start of the month.

A number of our newest riders also put some strong results in their debut season.

Monthly Rewind: January, February and March

A mild winter created a most unusual start to the 2024 season. There was plenty of road riding through the dark days of the season, and more than one fat bike race looked more like a mountain bike race.

In the past few weeks the road racing season has picked up steam with riders picking up some nice results in Missouri, Indiana and Illinois.
